The ceremony will include the Roll Call of Heroes and the addition of seven names to the memorial. They include FDNY firefighters, NYPD officers and other first responders. The vigil will also be livestreamed on the Putnam County website.

Town Hall and Mahopac Firehouse Ceremonies

Town of Carmel officials will observe a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. on Sept. 11, the time the first plane struck the World Trade Center, at the town’s memorial in front of Carmel Town Hall, 60 McAlpin Ave., Mahopac. The memorial features cement and steel beams.

Local artist shows 'Abstractions'

Mahopac artist Anny J. Willis will be among three artists featured in “Abstractions,” on display through Oct. 1 in the Third Floor Gallery at Mahopac Public Library.

Willis, a contemporary texture artist, studied at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts and works as a New York City public school language teacher. Inspired in part by helping with her mother’s cake-baking business, she uses palette knives, heavy-body gels and modeling pastes to create highly dimensional acrylic paintings with vibrant colors and gold accents.

The exhibit also features Rob Decina, a television industry creative professional who works with acrylics and collage paper and approaches his paintings as a form of storytelling, and Maggie Ploener, who has spent more than 40 years exploring different media and techniques. Ploener’s recent work combines ink and dry pigments on drafting vellum to create ethereal, cloudlike images.

A public reception will be held Wednesday, Sept. 9, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the library, 668 Route 6, Mahopac.

Farmers Market

The Carmel Farmers Market at Lake Mahopac will be held 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday except Sept. 6 through Oct. 18 at Chamber Park (953 South Lake Blvd.) in Mahopac.
