Sycamore Beach is back.
The Town of Carmel announced Friday afternoon that the beach has reopened after receiving clearance from the Putnam County Health Department. The beach had been closed since July 10 because of elevated bacteria levels.
The town said the beach reopened to the public July 17 after camp hours at 3:30 p.m. Weekend hours are 3:30 to 7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Recreation and Parks Department officials said they look forward to welcoming residents back for the remainder of the summer.
Secor Beach remains closed. As of Friday, July 17, other closures included:
Barger Pond Beach (Putnam Valley): Closed 7/15/26 — Elevated Bacteria Levels
Carraras Beach (Lake Peekskill, Putnam Valley): Closed 7/14/25 — Harmful Algae Blooms
Lake Secor Beach (Lake Secor, Carmel): Closed 7/8/26 — Elevated Bacteria Levels
Mahopac Golf Club Beach (Mahopac): Closed 7/17/26 — Elevated Bacteria Levels. (This does not reflect conditions throughout Lake Mahopac, just this beach.
North Beach (Lake Peekskill, Putnam Valley): Closed 7/10/26 — Elevated Bacteria Levels & Harmful Algae Blooms
Veterans Memorial Park Beach (Carmel): Closed 7/16/26 — Harmful Algae Blooms
Health department officials said results identified above reflect samples collected from regulated swimming areas only and may not be indicative of conditions in other parts of the lake.
