A flag retirement ceremony recently took place at the First Presbyterian Church of Mahopac, where the Troop 1 Scouts respectfully retired the church’s worn and faithfully flown American flag. A new flag, donated by the troop was raised in its place.
“Troop 1 is always looking for meaningful ways to give back, and this was a special opportunity to both honor the flag and support a landmark of our community,” said Scoutmaster Vincent Azzinaro. "Our troop is proud to continue its tradition of service through acts like this one.
The First Presbyterian Church has stood as a historic and spiritual cornerstone in Mahopac for generations. Pastor Samuel Hahn took part in the ceremony, highlighting the shared commitment of both the troop and the church to community service.
Troop 1 Mahopac, established in the 1930s, exemplifies the Scout motto—Be Prepared—not only in action but in heart. Their continued service reminds us all of the importance of community, duty, and the shared symbols that bring us together.
