Salvatore Colatruglio

Salvatore Colatruglio, of Mahopac, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2025. He was 88.

Salvatore was born in San Bartolomeo in Galdo, Italy on Dec. 12, 1936, the son of Fiorigio and Maria Addolorata (Agostinelli) Colatruglio.

Sal came to the United States in 1954, settling in the Bronx, before moving to Mahopac in the early 1970s. He was the owner of Colatruglio Construction and specialized in his trade as a bricklayer. Additionally, he worked as a school bus driver and then a maintenance worker in the Mahopac Central School District.

Sal was a life member of Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department and took on many roles, including that of department quartermaster. He was a member of the Putnam County Fire Police Association and a member of the Putnam Co. Volunteer Firemen's Association.

Sal was a member of the Italian American clubs of both Mahopac and Seaside Park, NJ. In Mahopac, he had been honored as an honorary grand marshal of the Columbus Day Parade.

On Aug.22, 1964, he married Carmela Alosco at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in the Bronx. Sadly, Carmela passed away on July 12, 2020. He is survived by his son, Joseph and his wife, Amy of Carmel, and his daughter, Maria Hughes and her husband, Colin of Mahopac; his four beloved grandchildren, Samantha, Joseph Jr., Sydney and Riley as well as extended family close to home and in Italy.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 20 at St. John the Evangelist Church, Mahopac with entombment at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
