A detour that added to Route 6 traffic woes is no longer in effect after Route 6N reopened to traffic on May 20.
A months-long culvert upgrade had required a section of Route 6N to be closed to traffic. The project, near the border with Jefferson Valley, forced drivers to take detours, increasing traffic on an already crowded Route 6, whose eastbound lanes sometimes backed up as far as Curry Street in Yorktown, with similar conditions reaching beyond Mahopac Avenue on the westbound side.
Emails forwarded by County Legislator Amy Sayegh from DOT Hudson Valley Region Engineer-in-Charge Jose A. Maria-Salcedo said crews completed soil-retaining headwalls and slope protection, while paving operations were completed earlier this month. All that had remained was “general cleaning and preparing the site for topsoil, striping and guiderail install,” Maria-Salcedo said.
The road appeared to remain closed on the morning of May 20 but was clear by midafternoon.
