Putnam opens registration for Youth Business Market

Posted

Putnam County has opened registration for young entrepreneurs interested in participating in the third annual Youth Business Market, scheduled for Sunday, June 14, at Tilly Foster Farm.

The event, organized by the Putnam County Youth Bureau, offers youth vendors an opportunity to showcase and sell products or services while gaining hands-on business experience. Registration is available online at PutnamCountyNY.gov/YBM.

Now in its third year, the market has drawn thousands of visitors and hundreds of young vendors since its launch, according to county officials. Participants have sold a range of items, including handmade goods, food, collectibles, and services.

County Executive Kevin Byrne said the event has exceeded expectations since its inception.

“When we first started this two years ago, we weren’t really sure what to expect,” Byrne said. “But we’ve been blown away by the creativity and determination of our young entrepreneurs.”

Byrne said the market is designed to help participants develop business skills and learn practical lessons about commerce, while encouraging them to grow their ventures locally.

The initiative is led by the Youth Bureau in partnership with local business owner Ed Santalone of Promenade on 6 in Carmel, with support from several county departments, including Tourism, the Sheriff’s Office, and Parks and Public Works.

Officials said the use of Tilly Foster Farm as the venue reflects the county’s effort to utilize public spaces for educational and community-focused programming.

Youth vendors must register in advance. Additional information is available on the county website or by contacting the Youth Bureau at 845-808-1600.
