MAHOPAC, N.Y. — After a five-year hiatus, the Putnam County Classic Lake Run returns Thursday, July 4, starting at the Mahopac Fire House. The 5.3-mile road race, organized by the Rockland Road Runners, begins on Croton Falls Road between Route 6 and East Lake Boulevard.

Half of the proceeds from the event will benefit the Mahopac Fire Department.

The course loops around Lake Mahopac, beginning with a flat, fast stretch through the town center before turning along the west and north shores. Runners will encounter rolling hills, lakefront homes and scenic views before finishing on a flat section near the Mahopac Golf Course.

An awards ceremony is scheduled overlooking the lake. Bagels and coffee will be provided by Our Town Bagels, and additional post-race options include brunch sponsored by the VFW and drinks at Friends Waterfront Grill. Both are within walking distance of the finish line.

The race coincides with the town’s annual Fourth of July boat parade, which begins at 10 a.m. on Lake Mahopac.

All registered runners will receive a finishers medal and post-race refreshments. Runners 21 and older will be offered a complimentary craft beer at the finish. The race is professionally timed, with free race-day photos provided.

The top male and female finishers will each receive a pair of tickets for a boat tour of Petra Island. Prizes will also be awarded by age group.
