The Wolf Pac volleyball team has been scrambling to find consistent play — and wins — this season, but Mahopac managed to locate both last Friday at home in a 3-0 league win over crosstown rival Carmel.
Mahopac (3-7, 3-3) got solid play from a number of sources.
“Junior mid Vivien Zucchi had a very strong offensive performance for us,” Pac coach Jay Melville said. “We’ve been working on running an up-tempo offense, and she had her best match hitting at a faster tempo. Bella DeChico has been doing a nice job setting and hitting, and (senior libero) Sophia Camastro also had a very strong game serve-receiving. Taylor Ann Vitiello came up with a strong day hitting and passing.
“It was a great overall team effort,” Melville went on. “That was the best energy we’ve had on the court for an entire match, with very few letdowns in play.”
Melville said the team’s communication, and flow — between setters and hitters -— continues to improve as playoffs approach.
“Defensively, our communication has been better,” the coach said. “Overall, we’re still inconsistent, and hurt ourselves too much to win against top teams. But we’re trying to get to a level where we can compete in post-season play, and I believe we can make a run.”
Mahopac fell to Rye in four sets on Monday (Sept. 29) and topped Yorktown in five sets the following day.
