MAHOPAC, N.Y. —After finding themselves in a 15-0 hole to open last Friday night’s game at Fox Lane, the Mahopac HS boys basketball team was unable to climb out, losing by the same 15-point margin, 47-32.
Mahopac, led by junior Matt Reilly’s 15-point, 11-rebound performance, closed the gap to 23-16 at halftime, but couldn’t complete the comeback.
“I thought we came out a little flat,” Mahopac coach Matt Calabro said. “They got off to a 15-0 start, and from there we were playing catch-up the rest of the way. We responded well, but we were going uphill all game.”
Mahopac beat Carmel in the opener, and lost to Greeley (57-56) in the championship game of its own tournament over the holiday break, on Dec. 27-28
Justin Beberman and Ethan Dedvukaj were named All-Tournament from Mahopac.
“Against Carmel, the kids came out pumped,” Calabro said. “We came out and played really well, focused on the game plan.
“But against Greeley, we’ve had battles with them in this tournament the last three years, and they’re tough.," the coach added. "They can shoot, and move the ball. We came out strong, and I was happy about the way we battled.”
Mahopac (4-3) is set to host Arlington on Friday (Jan. 10) at 6:30 p.m.
