MVFD holds mini carnival for special needs kids

Posted

Every year, the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department’s parade and carnival are staples of a Mahopac summer.

What many don’t know is that behind the scenes, for one day before the carnival opens to the general public, the MVFD hosts special needs students from Parkside Preschool and the Mahopac Central School District for their own mini carnival. On Thursday, July 31, that is exactly what happened.

MVFD officials said that every year during the carnival, they make provisions to host the students from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for rides, followed by a lunch of hot dogs and hamburgers. The event gives those students who wouldn’t be able to attend the carnival when it is in full session with crowds of people a special time of their own to enjoy the carnival experience.
