WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.—The Mahopac track and field team delivered standout performances at the 57th Glenn D. Loucks Games this past weekend, with school records falling and personal bests set during the three-day meet at White Plains High School.
The girls distance medley relay team broke the school record by 10 seconds Thursday night, running 13:09. The relay featured Gianna Hartmann (1200m), Sam Salomon (400m), Cara O’Halloran (800m), and Kira Waring (1600m).
“Heading into the day, we knew the girls had a chance,” said Coach Kelley Posch. “But they really worked together with some solid handoffs and great performances to hit the record mark.”
The boys distance medley relay team—Kelvin Cabrera, Hayden Biolchini, Tyler Long, and Liam McGuire—was just eight seconds short of the school record, finishing in 11:32. McGuire, a senior committed to SUNY Cortland, closed with a personal best 4:41 mile.
Friday night brought another milestone, as Brandon Kumrow broke the two-minute barrier in the 800 meters for the first time, clocking in at 1:59.46.
“His mark was a long time coming and well-deserved,” said Posch. “He still has room to improve on his start, so we are excited to see what he does with the remainder of the season.”
Kira Waring added a strong showing in the 3200m, finishing in 11:26.45. Her 3000m split was nearly a 15-second personal best.
“She had a real breakthrough that will translate to big confidence as we head to county and class championships,” Posch said.
On Saturday, Joseph Pellegrino notched a personal best in the 100 meters, running 11.29—a drop of more than half a second.
“A jump like that is almost unheard of for athletes in his event,” said Posch. “But with the right conditions and competition to push him, Joey took advantage and crushed it.”
Freshman Cara O’Halloran capped the meet with a milestone of her own, breaking the one-minute mark in the 400 meters with a 59.45.
“Cara has been insanely consistent in her performances and progress,” Posch said. “There was no doubt she was ready to break 1. She had a monster leg on the DMR on Thursday and all of her races are coming straight from the heart. She will be another one to watch as we enter championship season—and she’s only a freshman.”
