SHIRLEY, N.Y. - A Mahopac man was arrested Monday (Oct. 7) and charged with reckless driving for alleged illegal drift racing in the town of Shirley on Long Island, according to published reports.

Suffolk County Police said they arrested 26-year-old Anthony Bartoszewicz of Mahopac around 5:30 p.m. on Monday, 40 hours after the purple Dodge Charger he was allegedly driving was observed by officers being driven recklessly at the intersection of Montauk Highway and William Floyd Parkway.

Police said the car stalled during a “rubber-burning, sparking-inducing spinout,” and Bartoszewicz fled but was apprehended a day later.

According to greaterlongisland.com, police said Bartoszewicz was observed performing “donuts”—a maneuver where a driver spins their vehicle in tight circles. The report said that the vehicle was later determined to be a rental.

Bartoszewicz was arraigned by a local magistrate and was released without bail, although the car was impounded by police.
