Seniors Kelsie Thimm and Lia DiMase both had strong showings, with Thimm taking the top score in the uneven bars with an 8.30 and DiMase finishing fourth, fifth, and sixth in the vault, uneven bars, and balance beam respectively.
“A great night recognizing our seniors, Kelsie and Lia, on senior night,” said head coach Vin Collins. “Our gymnasts competed for our seniors tonight and it was a great competition; very close throughout the entire meet!”
While Clarkstown’s Bella Alcruz (35.65) narrowly edged Lexie Castrataro (35.55) in the all-around, Mahopac had five gymnasts finish in the top 10. In addition to Thimm’s top showing on the bars (who finished sixth all-around), Riley Hughes posted the high score on beam (9.35), tying for ninth in the all-around.
“Riley had her best beam routine of her high school career and her best all-around of the season,” said Collins, who added the close three-way battle was no surprise. “Everyone knew it would be a close meet and our gymnasts came up big!”
Collins said the team’s strong campaign was a prelude for the for the sectionals.
“We finished the regular season with a record of 9-2 and we are gearing up for the postseason,” Collins said. “It’s going to be fun!”
“Lia, Kelsie, Lexie [Castrataro], and Anna [Carinci] led the way with Sophia [Lombardi], Keira [Callahan], Kayla [Contreras], and Lara [Dimase] once again adding great depth,” Collins said. “I know I’ve been saying this the entire season but it was a great team effort—everyone contributed for our seniors.”
