MAHOPAC, N.Y.—Mahopac's varsity girls basketball team capped off regular-season play last week with three wins, dropping Poughkeepsie, 64-33, on Wednesday, before cruising past Carmel, 60-27, and closing it out with a 59-54 overtime win Saturday over Yorktown.
Saturday against Yorktown, Mahopac tied the game at 52-52 with 10 seconds remaining in regulation on a basket by Niamh Kelleher, and the Pac went on to outscore Yorktown 7-2 in the extra session.
Pac junior Mady Ford finished with a season-high 22 points (including 16 in the second half). Senior Caily Salon added 15 points (including 11 in the second half), while Lily Holguin added six points.
“I thought the difference was our energy level,” Mahopac coach Jason Conklin said. “We were all over on the defensive end, we created turnovers and steals and turned them into points. We played really well in the second half.
“Ford and Salon both really played big for us,” the coach added. “Kelleher was huge, and Lily came in and played a lot of minutes, and did an amazing job.”
One night earlier, the Wolf Pac hosted Carmel on Senior Night, where the team honored senior team captains Salon, Gianna Lucia, and Bella Scuoppo.
“They’ve all done a great job for us with their maturity,” Conklin said of the trio. “They’ve led by example, and done a great job controlling the emotions of a young team.”
Salon finished with 20 points to lead Mahopac. Ashley Koch added 11, and Kelleher had eight.
“We came out with good energy, the seniors got playing time, and everyone scored,” Conklin said. “It was a good night.”
Two nights earlier at Poughkeepsie, the Wolf Pac rolled over the Pioneers behind Salon’s 20-point performance. Giana Puckhaber added 11.
Mahopac (13-7) is scheduled to host a Class AA playoff game Saturday, set tentatively at 12 noon.
