Mahopac boys fall to Brewster, split two in ‘Friends vs. Cancer’ tourney

MAHOPAC, N.Y.—Mahopac HS’s boys basketball team opened last week with a 45-36 loss to Brewster, before traveling to the Friends vs. Cancer Tournament on Friday and Saturday at the Obama School for Social Justice in Yonkers.

The Pac took Clarkstown North to overtime in the first round before dropping a 55-47 decision, putting them in the consolation game vs. Valhalla, which they won, 63-33.

Against North, Mahopac (which was out-scored 11-3 in OT) got 14 points from Justin Beberman, and eight each from Matt Reilly and Drew Lichtenberger.

In the consolation game vs. Valhalla, Mahopac (5-6)  was led by a 16-point performance from Drew Lichtenberger, with Beberman adding nine, and Reilly eight.

“It’s for a good cause, and it’s always a competitive tournament,” Pac coach Matt Calabro said. “I saw a lot of fight in our guys, and I loved how we played overall.

“Justin Beberman really came on strong for us,” Calabro added. “Matt Reilly continued his strong play, and Drew Lichtenberger was a factor offensively and defensively—he played really well for us.”

Mahopac opened the week with a 45-36 loss to Brewster Calabro called “an off night offensively for us.”

Reilly led the Pac with 10 points and 12 rebounds, and Ryan LaRue added seven points.

Mahopac was is set to host Panas on Tuesday (Jan. 21), travels to RCK on Thursday (Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m.), and hosts the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament on Saturday, with games set for noon, 1:45, 3:30 and 5:15 p.m.
