Pig Roast at American Legion Hall

The Sons of the American Legion will hold its 24th annual Pig Roast on Saturday, July 25, from 1 p.m. to dusk at Mahopac American Legion Post 1080, 333 Buckshollow Road, Mahopac. The event will include a pig roast, clambake, steamers, clam chowder, barbecued ribs, fried turkey, hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage and peppers, raffles and 50-50 drawings. Tickets are $55 in advance by July 18 or $60 after July 18; children under 12 are free. Only 150 tickets will be sold. Proceeds benefit American Legion and veterans programs. Farmers Market

The Carmel Farmers Market at Lake Mahopac will be held 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. every Sunday except July 5 and Sept. 6 through Oct. 18 at Chamber Park (953 South Lake Blvd.) in Mahopac. From fresh local finds to delicious treats and community favorites, the market has become a favorite weekend destination for residents and visitors alike.

Organizers are looking for musical acts, crafters and more, and are inviting people with “big community energy” to come be part of the “market magic.”

Putnam Fair and 4-H Showcase 

The Putnam County Fair & 4-H Showcase will take place Saturday, July 25, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday, July 26, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Putnam County Veterans Memorial Park, 201 Gipsy Trail Road, Carmel. Admission and parking are free. The event will feature 4-H exhibits and miniature horse showmanship, K-9 demonstrations and corgi races, Revolutionary War 250th anniversary activities, pony rides, entertainment, kid-friendly activities, educational displays, community organizations, vendors, the NY Cruisers Car Show and food trucks.

Pop-up Felafel Stand

Chabad of Putnam will host a Mid-Summer Pop-Up Homemade Falafel Stand on Thursday, July 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. at 5 Fair St., Carmel. Guests can enjoy freshly made falafel or shawarma pitas prepared to order with homemade falafel or shawarma, hummus, techina, Israeli salad, pickles and grilled eggplant. Falafel is $12 and shawarma is $18. Diners may eat on-site or take their meals to go. National Night Out

National Night Out returns to Airport Park on Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 5 to 8 p.m., offering an evening of free family fun while fostering connections between residents and local law enforcement. Hosted by the Carmel Police Department and the Town of Carmel Recreation Department, the event will feature free barbecue, games, a bounce house and more at Airport Park, 161 Hill St., Mahopac. Admission is free.

Vendor Sale

Get a jump on holiday shopping at the Christmas in July Vendor Sale on Wednesday, July 29, from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at Four Brothers Pizza Restaurant, 654 Route 6, Mahopac. The event will feature local vendors and will spotlight United for the Troops, a charity that provides comfort items to members of the military. Attendees are encouraged to support the featured cause while browsing vendors and can also receive a coupon for 10 percent off a future meal at Four Brothers with a qualifying event receipt. The event is presented by ItsMyBag & Friends Gives Back Collective.

Sunset Concert Series

The Recreation and Parks Department's free Sunset Concert Series will be held Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. at Sycamore Park, 790 Long Pond Road, Mahopac. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets.

Mahopac Library

O'Reilly Arts Bic Pen Illustrations: From July 29 through Aug. 31, the Mahopac Public Library's Third Floor Gallery will showcase more than 35 black Bic pen pet portraits by Yorktown Heights illustrator Dylan O'Reilly. Many of the works will be available for purchase.

Get Ready to Read: Starting Monday, Aug. 3, at 5:30 p.m., rising first graders can participate in "Get Ready to Read with Ms. Marisa," a four-day phonics and reading-readiness program taught by a certified elementary school teacher. Through games, stories and hands-on activities, children will build letter-sound, blending, sight-word and early reading skills. Repair Cafe

Grace Lutheran Church (3830 Gomer St.) will host the next Yorktown Repair Cafe from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday July 25. Want to get some of your broken items back in service and keep them out of the waste stream?  The folks at the Repair Cafe may be able to help. Lamps, small appliances, bikes, clocks, fabrics, toys, wooden items, crockery, jewelry, computers and electronics — anything broken is welcome at the Repair Cafe. Volunteer specialists will assess whether an item can be repaired and, if possible, fix it for free.  Use the Yorktown Repair Cafe page on Signup Genius to register, or just walk in.

Garden Club

The Lake Mahopac Garden Club will hold its monthly meeting at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4. The luncheon and business meeting will be held at Airport Park in Mahopac. The program, “Making an Herb Wreath,” will feature Garden Club President Marie Braun demonstrating how to make a decorative wreath using herbs from her garden. Participants will then make their own herb wreaths. The fee is $5. Members are encouraged to bring their lunch.

Movies in the Meadow 

The Recreation and Parks Dept. will host its annual Movies in the Meadow series at Camarda Park, 226 Seminary Hill Road, Carmel. Movies begin at dusk and are free for town residents.  Upcoming showings include "The Lego Movie" on July 31 (presented in collaboration with Reed Memorial Library), and "Ferris Bueller’s Day Off" on Aug. 28.  For more info, call 845-628-7888.

Firemen’s Carnival 

The Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual carnival over two weekends: July 23-26 and July 30-Aug. 1. The carnival will feature rides, games, food, the department's famous sausage and peppers, the annual raffle and plenty of family-friendly entertainment. 

Hours are 7 to 11 p.m. Thursday and Friday, July 23-24; 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday, July 25; and 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 26. The second weekend runs 7 to 11 p.m. Thursday and Friday, July 30-31, and 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1. 

The annual firemen's parade will kick off the carnival on Thursday, July 23, at 7 p.m.
