Deputies make cocaine bust after Carmel traffic stop

Posted

Two people were arrested on felony drug charges after deputies recovered more than 2½ ounces of cocaine during a traffic stop last Wednesday night in Carmel, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

Members of the Sheriff’s Office Conditions Unit stopped a vehicle on Route 6 at about 9:01 p.m. on April 29. During the stop, deputies seized approximately 75 grams of cocaine and took into custody a 32-year-old woman from Carmel and a 41-year-old man from Peekskill. Authorities said the man was also found in possession of an electronic stun gun.

The Sheriff’s Office declined to release the suspects’ names, citing an ongoing investigation they may be involved in.

Both individuals were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, including a count alleging intent to sell. The man faces an additional charge of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree. While stun guns are legal to own in New York, officials noted the man is a convicted felon and therefore prohibited from possessing one.

The woman was released on her own recognizance with electronic monitoring. The man was remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility.
