The Putnam County Conservative Party Executive Committee on March 3 endorsed Tanner McCracken as its candidate for Putnam County legislator in District 8 (Mahopac), backing the Mahopac school board trustee ahead of the June Republican primary, where he will face Carmel Town Councilman Frank Lombardi. The seat became open when incumbent Legislator Amy Sayegh decided not to seek reelection.
McCracken, 26, has served on the Mahopac school board for six years and said his tenure has focused on transparency measures, property tax relief and adding personal finance instruction for students before graduation.
He called the endorsement an honor.
“I am running to make Putnam County stronger and more affordable for hard-working residents, families and seniors,” McCracken said.
In a press release, James Maxwell Jr., vice chairman of the Putnam County Conservative Party, said the committee supported McCracken based on his record locally and his work as a staffer to State Senate Minority Leader Rob Ortt.
“Tanner McCracken has proven himself to be a strong and reliable conservative voice in our community,” Maxwell said. “His record on the Mahopac School Board and as a staffer to the Senate Republican Conference shows a clear commitment to fiscal responsibility and transparency in government.”
Gerard Kassar, chairman of the New York State Conservative Party, said McCracken represents a younger generation of party leadership.
“Tanner McCracken is exactly the kind of candidate the Conservative Party is proud to support,” Kassar said.
The endorsement gives McCracken support from the Conservative Party line as the campaign moves toward the June 23 Republican primary.
