MAHOPAC, NY – SafeWise, an advisory group based out of Utah and consisting of experts in personal safety, theft trends, IT security, criminal justice, and health, has named Carmel the second-safest city in New York State in its 2025 Safest Cities report.

This is the 11th annual Safest Cities report from SafeWise, and sees Carmel rising two spots from fourth safest in New York in 2024.

This year’s Safest Cities Report utilized crime data from the FBI from which Carmel has seen decreases in the amount of violent crime and property crime per 1,000 residents since 2023, as well as SafeWise’s “The State of Safety” nationwide survey.

Carmel joins local neighbors Bedford, Rye, East Fishkill, and Yorktown in the top 10 safest places in the state. This is not the first organization to select Carmel as a “safest town”. Last month during the department’s annual Police Week awards ceremony, it was announced that MoneyGeek, Carmel was named as the seventh safest town in the United States. This was also a move up from the eighth safest from the year before. Police Chief Anthony Hoffmann praised the members of the Carmel Police Department for this latest accolade.

“We’re happy to hear once again for another year and from another organization that the men and women of the Carmel PD have been recognized nationally for the great work they do to make this one of the safest communities in New York and the country,” he said. “Our cops and our community have truly come together to make this one of the best places to live.”
