Carmel man scratches million-dollar Lottery prize

 A Carmel man is a million dollars richer after hitting the jackpot on a scratch-off ticket last week.

On Oct.  23, Devone Cerreiro claimed a $1,000,000 prize from the New York Lottery’s VIP Millions scratch-off game. 

Cerreiro received a one-time lump sum payment totaling $651,010, after required withholdings. 

The ticket was purchased at Ali’s Lucky Place & Convenience located at 718 McClean Ave. in Yonkers. 

As of this writing, there were 11 of the $1,000,000 prizes and two $5,000,000 prizes remaining on the VIP Millions ticket. Players can check the status of any New York Lottery scratch-off game by downloading the Game Report at nylottery.ny.gov. 

New York Lottery scratch-off games generated $4,339,794,048 in total sales during fiscal year 2024-2025. School districts in Putnam County received $16,632,962 in Lottery Aid to Education funds during the same period.
