Botanical art exhibit heads to Mahopac Library

Posted

“Visions,” a botanical art exhibit by Rose Marie James, will be on display Feb. 5–27 at Mahopac Library’s Third Floor Gallery.

The exhibit features botanical oil paintings that look ahead to the arrival of spring. James abstracts the natural world through line, color, shape and repetition, with close attention to negative space and color juxtaposition. Fluid, organic movement runs throughout the work, often sparked by unexpected palette knife strokes or surprising color combinations.

James’ work is held in private and public collections. She has exhibited with the Buffalo Society of Artists, the Albright-Knox Members’ Gallery, including its Western New York Show, and the Chautauqua Institute’s International Art Exhibition. She is a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists, the Mamaroneck Artists’ Guild, Pelham Art Center, Rye Art Center and Garrison Art Center. Her work is represented by Susan Kelley on 1stDibs, and she has exhibited at Arbor Gallery, Vanda Gallery and Rye Art Center Hallway Gallery.

James holds a master’s degree in art education and teaches at the New York Botanical Garden.

An artist’s reception will be held Saturday, Feb. 7, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the third-floor gallery. The public is invited to meet the artist, view the collection and enjoy light refreshments.

The gallery is open during regular library hours. For exhibit inquiries, visit mahopaclibrary.org/art-galleries or email mplgallerycommittee@gmail.com.
