After beating Brewster by 18 points a week earlier on the Bears’ home floor, the same Brewster team came into the Wolf Den last Wednesday (Jan. 28) and handed the Pac an unexpected 39-37 loss. Mahopac then hit the road Saturday for a game against a tough RCK team and took a 62-54 loss to the Storm.
Against Brewster, Mahopac (9-5) opened the game looking tight and had trouble getting into a smooth offensive flow against a pestering Bears defense, which held the hosts to five points in the first quarter (9-5). Mahopac trailed 18-15 at halftime and never seemed to find its rhythm.
“We turned the ball over more than we typically do,” Pac coach Jason Conklin said. “And we didn’t shoot particularly well. Overall, it was a game we wish we had back. But we’ll move on, and it just makes us stronger.”
At RCK, Fiona Kelleher led the Pac with 20 points. Giana Puckhaber finished with 14 points to go with five rebounds, five assists and three steals. Niamh Kelleher added eight points, three rebounds and three assists.
“I thought that was a good bounce-back performance for us,” Conklin said. “The girls showed up ready to play, and it was a back-and-forth game, and we had opportunities down the stretch. But they had some 3-point shooters that proved to be the difference.”
Mahopac is set to host Yorktown on Friday (Feb. 6) at 6:30 p.m.
