The holiday season is often thought of as a time for celebration, tradition and gathering with family and friends.
Yet, year after year, between Thanksgiving and New Year’s, our office receives an influx of calls from concerned children, nieces,...

School success requires many skills, but there's something else that matters just as much: confidence.
Students with self-confidence believe in themselves and their ability to learn and achieve. As a result, they are better able to persevere...

As we head into Thanksgiving, I’ve been thinking about what I’m grateful for—and the first thing that comes to mind is the people who’ve stood with us. Our long-time clients. The ones who don’t just buy ads, but who genuinely understand what we do...

The school year often begins on a high note. For the first few weeks, students review last year's material, feel confident, and transition back into the classroom.
However, by late September or mid-October, reality sets in. New content gets...

Reports of craft beer’s death have been greatly exaggerated.
With a nod to Mark Twain, it’s worth repeating his timeless understatement to lighten the mood around beer headlines. Yes, breweries have been closing — but the story isn’t all doom and...

Dear Editor
I appreciate the core idea behind your column “No Kings – and no double standards,” but the opinion piece itself is riddled with double standards. It is loaded, in every sense of the word, with inaccuracies and false equivalencies,...

I cry when I am sad, I cry when I am happy, and I cry when I’m in between – so say my kids.
The loss of a close and dear one, a pet, longtime friendship, etc., brings with it many tears. It makes us question if there was anything more we could...

One of our Thanksgiving gatherings from years ago is a day that lives in infamy.
Things were going so well until two of my brothers-in-law got into it with my father over politics after a few glasses of wine. I may have contributed to the...

Dear Editor,
As a Mahopac resident, retired teacher and avid reader of Mahopac News, I’m writing out of concern for the girls/young women on the various sports teams of Mahopac and doubtless other high schools.
Each time I read and see accompanying photos of the MHS girls’ teams, I’m severely dismayed and disappointed by the uniform that they seem to have adopted.

Dear Editor,
With regard to the Publisher's Memo saying that both sides having double standards ("No Kings—and no double standards," Oct. 23, Page 22), no question there are bad actors on both sides. But I think the Republicans are winning this one in large measure.

Dear Editor,
As a relative newcomer to Mahopac – a hamlet with a storied past – I have watched as year-in and year-out the same folks have been elected to the Carmel Town Board, while at the same time many important projects continually stall. We all know what happens when important decisions are delayed; we often wind up paying more than if they had been addressed in a timelier manner.
I believe a change of the guard is in order, and to ensure that better due-diligence, negotiation and decision-making become part of our Town Board, I’m voting for Jean Hopper for Town Board Supervisor.
Jean is a long-time Carmelite with professional managerial experience who has raised her family here and become deeply involved in her community. She is exceedingly familiar with Carmel’s issues and has been following the board’s work for years.
