MAHOPAC, N.Y. — The Putnam Arts Council is now accepting registration for its Spring Session 2 classes and its Summer Arts Programs for children and teens.
Classes include drawing, painting, pottery, creative writing, stop-motion animation, and more. Find a full list here.
Spring Session 2 classes, available for children, teens, and adults, begin the last week in April and continue through May. The summer programs for kids and teens will start July 10 and run through August.
Personal instruction from working artists is a hallmark of the council’s offerings, which are open to beginners and advanced students alike. Classes and workshops are held in the climate-controlled studios at the Belle Levine Art Center, located at 521 Kennicut Hill Road. The center has been a cultural destination for the community since 1963.
The historic building that now houses the center was once the studio of cartoonist Bud Fisher, creator of "Mutt and Jeff," in the early 1900s. Before that, it served as a barn on a dairy farm dating to the late 1800s.
The Putnam Arts Council offers affordable classes during the day, afternoon, evening, and weekends.

Programs of the Putnam Arts Council are supported, in part, with public funds from Putnam County and through the New York State Council on the Arts with support from the Governor’s Office and the state Legislature.
