McCracken speaking up for taxpayers

Dear Editor,

I watched the Mahopac Board of Education meeting on March 12 and felt compelled to thank Trustee Tanner McCracken for standing up for the taxpayers of our community.

While it would have been easy to simply go along with the proposed tax increase, Tanner spoke eloquently and forcefully for “we the people,” the taxpayers of Mahopac. He made it clear that the Board of Education should not be raising taxes, and he was the only member willing to vote against doing so that night. At a time when residents are already being taxed to death, especially following the Town of Carmel’s disastrous revaluation and shift to 100% assessments, many families are feeling the pressure. Tanner understands that reality. We need more people like Tanner McCracken on the school board and in local government.
