Knicks watch party set for Chamber Park

Posted

The NBA Finals are back at Madison Square Garden tonight, and if you can’t afford the estimated $4,000-plus ticket price tag for the upper tiers (with courtside seats reportedly topping six figures), you don’t have to sit at home — you can join other fans for a Mahopac get-together.

Town of Carmel residents are invited to gather at Mahopac Chamber Park on Monday, June 8, for a community watch party as the New York Knicks take on the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3 of the NBA Finals.

The event gives fans a chance to share the excitement as the Knicks close in on their first title since the days of Clyde Frazier and Willis Reed. It's especially poignant with ticket cost pricing average fans out of the Garden, prompting Knick Josh Hart to say he "wish(es) the ticket prices weren't as crazy as they are."

"I feel like a lot of people who have been waiting for this moment for a very long time unfortunately aren't able to get into the building," he said on Sunday. "The cheapest ticket $7,000, $8,000. That's ridiculous."

Hosted by Councilmen Robert Kearns and Michael Lugo in partnership with the Town of Carmel Recreation and Parks Department, the free event begins with an 8:30 p.m. tipoff. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets and enjoy food trucks, a DJ and a family-friendly atmosphere while cheering on the Knicks.

The watch party will be held at Mahopac Chamber Park, 951 S. Lake Blvd., Mahopac. Admission is free.
