Westchester County law enforcement on alert as U.S., Iran exchange strikes

WESTCHESTER, N.Y. - Westchester County police are working with federal law enforcement agencies to monitor – and share information about -- the rapidly unfolding events in the Middle East.

On Sunday, Feb. 28, the United States, in coordination with Israel, launched a large-scale military offensive against Iran, targeting military sites and the country’s senior leadership in Tehran, and five other major cities.

At last count, more than 200 people had been killed, according to Iranian state media.

Calling on the Iranian people to rise up and topple their government, President Trump said the U.S. aimed to destroy Iran’s nuclear program capabilities and dismantle its missile industry.

He claimed that the attack on Iran was provoked by imminent threats to U.S. interests and its allies, following failed negotiations after last year’s 12-day war between Israel and Iran, with U.S. involvement.

Iran struck back, firing drones and missiles at northern Israel and U.S. military bases in the Middle East.

According to the WCPD, investigators assigned to the Real Time Crime Center will share information immediately with municipal agencies in the county and region regarding any “potential threats to Westchester or the Hudson Valley.”

Law enforcement has already been conducting increased patrols around houses of worship due to current and upcoming significant religious holidays and observances.
