Welcome to “News & Notes,” where we look at the happenings here in Westchester County.
We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season; apparently, I was a bit naughty last year, as Santa jammed enough coal in my stocking to heat all of Katonah.
Once again, I have outsmarted myself by making my New Year’s resolution “not to make any resolutions.” Just saying that means I already broke the resolution, so please sit back and enjoy this week’s resolution-free edition of “News & Notes.”
Speaking of resolutions, a favorite one is to unclutter. What better way than to visit the Mobile Shredder on Saturday, Jan. 17, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Town Recycling Center in Bedford Hills?
Here is an event you will not want to miss: “First Responder Information Night” on Jan. 22 at 6:30 p.m., at the Bedford Hills Community House. The Town of Bedford is served by four all-volunteer first responder agencies. Join them for this fun and informative evening, featuring a panel discussion where you can learn more about each agency and how you can get involved or support our volunteers.
On Jan. 30, from 7 to 9:30 p.m., the Historic Hall in Bedford Village will host 1776 Tavern Night, the “Rev Up 250” launch event for Bedford’s yearlong celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Attendees will learn more about coalition member plans while enjoying themed vignettes, music, food and drink. This festive event will serve as the launch of a spectacular year of history, civic engagement and the principles of the American dream. And for those who were wondering—no, I was not at the first meeting 250 years ago.
Over the holiday break, I took my family to Forged Iron Golf in Mount Kisco. We had a blast with the golf simulator and didn’t even break the machine. Although some of our shots were a bit wild and crazy. Phil and the team were great hosts, although I do think greeting me with a helmet was a bit much.
Lasdon Park is presenting “Owls in Winter” on Jan. 24, from 1 to 3 p.m. Guests can learn about the owls that live at Lasdon and also make an adorable Snowy Owl craft.
On Jan. 15 at 1:30 p.m., the Bedford Hills Free Library hosts Crafternoon, their monthly gathering to meet the new librarian and make an easy and fun seasonal project. The busy holiday season has come to an end, so come make this relaxing macramé craft in their quiet and cozy library.
A New Year’s toast with great cheer and a big thank you to all essential personnel—first responders, health care workers and anyone out there on the front lines. Thank you for your dedication, your service, and for being there for all of us.
I would like to wish everyone a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year… Happy 2026!
