LEWISBORO, N.Y. - Pam Veith has served as Director of The Lewisboro Seniors for many years, and has done a superb job.
Recently, she made a hard decision to retire. She has made so many connections with our seniors and so many memories that will last a lifetime. Needless to say, when we heard she was retiring, we had mixed feelings. We were glad for Pam, but also worried who would follow in her footsteps.
Interviews were conducted and the seniors were lucky to find Jenn Brown to serve as their new Director. It is hard to step into a role that had a successful leader.
With that being said, we hit the jack pot for a second time.
Jenn’s ability to give the seniors a day of fun was represented when we celebrated the 4th of July. We started with an eccentrics class (exercise while sitting) given by June Bird. Jenn managed to get most of our seniors to participate. Even those that do not usually take part got into exercise mode. We followed up by playing cornhole, which Jenn’s twin sons carried in for us. After that we had marching music playing while our President, Gail Kraljevic, twirled a cane, since a baton wasn’t available.
While all this was going on, we had a surprise visit from our patriotic Uncle Sam. Lunch was provided by Lily’s Market and we can’t thank Lily enough for her kindness to our seniors. Also, thanks to The Horse and Hound for their many lunches that have been provided and to Alison and Mark Biddle who have organized these events.
And to put the icing on the cake we had 4th of July cupcakes and an ice cream social prepared by Jenn.
In addition to directing our programs, Jenn drives many of our seniors to doctor’s appointments. One has to be a multitasker to take on this job.
I urge anyone that hasn’t tried our group to come give it a whirl. We have the friendliest group of seniors and where is there a better place to make life-long friends?
We have many people that play Rummikub. If you don’t know how to play, we can teach you.
We also have a Senior Book Club run by Cindy from the Lewisboro Library. We are currently reading “The God of the Woods” by Liz Moore. This book will be discussed on the last Wednesday of August.
The Lewisboro Seniors meet every Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Stephens Memorial Church in South Salem. We do cancel in cases of extreme heat or snow, so call the Recreation Departmentt if you are in doubt. There is a senior bus that will pick you up if needed. Our bus driver Doreen will welcome you.
If you can’t come to our meetings, you might want to go on some of our trips. Membership is $20 annually. We have been to many different venues, such as Sturbridge Village, The Culinary Institute, and a ferry ride to Sheffield Island. We will also have a trip in November to see the holiday show with the Rockettes. Please join us in whatever capacity you desire. We welcome you to our group. We look forward to seeing you,
Call Jenn Brown at 914-494-1865 if you need any further information on programming, doctor’s appointments, or bus rides.
