BEDFORD, N.Y. - A Bronx man was arrested Wednesday morning following a police pursuit on Interstate 684 that ended with a collision involving a federal law enforcement vehicle, according to the New York State Police.
Troopers assigned to the Somers barracks attempted to stop a 2020 Acura traveling southbound on I-684 at approximately 9 a.m. on March 25 after receiving an alert from Westchester Real Time Crime regarding switched license plates.
Authorities said the driver failed to comply, prompting a pursuit. The vehicle exited the highway at Exit 3 onto Route 22 in the Town of New Castle. During the attempt to flee, the Acura struck a vehicle operated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation before coming to a stop.
The driver, identified as Jeremy Lal, 27, of the Bronx, and a front-seat passenger were taken into custody at the scene. The passenger was later released following the initial investigation.
Following further investigation by the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Lal was charged with second-degree criminal mischief, a class D felony, as well as several misdemeanors including unlawful fleeing a police officer, obstructing governmental administration, and reckless endangerment. He also faces multiple vehicle and traffic violations.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Lal was arraigned in the Town of Bedford Court and released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to return to court on April 8 at 3:30 p.m.
State Police credited the assistance of Westchester Real Time Crime, Westchester County Police, the FBI, and the North Castle Police Department in the investigation.
