FISHKILL, N.Y. - A 61-year-old woman from South Salem was among those injured a multi-car crash allegedly caused by an intoxicated motorist.

Just after 9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, personnel from the Town of Fishkill Police Department, Rombout Fire Department, and Empress EMS, along with State Police investigators from the Wappinger barracks, were called to the scene of a crash involving several vehicles near 107 State Route 9 in Fishkill.

A preliminary investigation showed that Timothy C. Henion, 33, of Beacon, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck southbound when he veered into the northbound lane and struck three vehicles before coming to stop on the roadway.

Henion allegedly first struck a 2011 Chevrolet, impacting the driver’s side before hitting a 2013 Mini Cooper driven by a South Salem resident, causing significant damage.

Henion’s truck then struck a 2023 Volkswagen occupied by three juveniles, which sustained minor damage.

While the driver of the Chevrolet was uninjured, the driver of the Mini Cooper was trapped in the vehicle, and sustained serious injuries. She was extricated from the car and airlifted to Westchester Medical Center.

Henion was also transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

After an investigation, Henion was charged with Vehicular Assault in the 2nd Degree (Class E Felony), Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 1st Degree (Class E Felony), Driving While Intoxicated – 1st Offense (Unclassified Misdemeanor), and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations.

Henion was arraigned before the Town of Fishkill Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail on $50,000 cash bail, $100,000 secured bond, or a $499,000 partially secured bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 30.

This investigation is ongoing.
