BEDFORD, N.Y. - A snow plow truck caught fire on the evening of Jan. 26, at the Exxon gas station on Bedford Road, prompting a swift response from the Bedford Hills Fire Department and mutual aid units.

At approximately 6 p.m., Westchester County 60 Control began receiving multiple calls reporting a plow truck on fire near the gas pumps within the Bedford Hills Fire District. Katonah Car 2212, which was in the area, confirmed that the vehicle was actively burning at the pumps and that the station’s Ansul fire suppression system had activated.

The first unit to arrive on scene requested assistance from a tanker due to snow-covered fire hydrants in the area following a recent snowstorm. With a water source established, firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze.

Officials reported no extension beyond the plow truck itself, and the fire was successfully contained to the area of origin. No injuries were reported.

Bedford Hills Fire Department units operated on scene until approximately 6:47 p.m., at which time the incident was turned over to the business owner and the Town of Bedford Building Department.

Fire officials used the incident as a reminder to residents to clear snow away from fire hydrants after winter storms, noting that unobstructed hydrants can save firefighters valuable time when seconds matter during emergencies.
