SOUTH SALEM, N.Y. - New York State Police have identified the second victim of a fatal three-alarm house fire in Lewisboro as Allison L. Enwright, 52, more than two months after the blaze claimed two lives and injured several others.
The fire occurred on Thursday, April 16, at a residence on Old Shop Road. Emergency responders were dispatched at approximately 12:40 p.m. for a reported structure fire with possible entrapment.
According to a spokesman for the Westchester County Department of Public Safety, School Resource Officer Brett Schlosser was the first to attempt assistance at the scene. Schlosser, who is assigned to John Jay High School and Middle School, was on campus when he noticed smoke rising from a nearby neighborhood. He drove to the location, discovered the fire and radioed for assistance. After learning that individuals remained inside the home, Schlosser attempted to enter the structure as firefighters arrived but was unable to do so because of heavy smoke and flames.
New York State Police and the Lewisboro Police Department were also among the first agencies to respond.
The blaze intensified rapidly, prompting a third alarm by approximately 1:15 p.m. as flames spread throughout the residence.
Investigators later located two individuals inside the home. One, identified as Noel M. Rae, 93, was transported to a local medical facility, where he later died from his injuries. Enwright was found deceased inside the residence, though her identity was not publicly released until June 22.
Three additional residents were able to escape the home and were transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
Multiple fire departments, including South Salem, Katonah, Bedford, Golden's Bridge, Bedford Hills, Vista, Croton Falls, West Harrison, Danbury and New Canaan, responded to the scene, along with the Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps and multiple law enforcement agencies. Authorities reported that more than 100 firefighters were on scene, with some crews remaining into the early morning hours.
Assistance was also provided by the Bedford Police Department, Westchester County EMS, the Westchester County Medical Examiner's Office, the Westchester County District Attorney's Office and the Westchester County Fire Investigation Unit. Coverage for the South Salem Fire District during the incident was provided by the Mill Plain Fire Department.
According to New York State Police, the investigation into the cause and origin of the fire remains ongoing.
