Dear Editor,
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and, to welcome it, the Putnam/Northern Westchester Women’s Resource Center is holding its fourth annual Walk to End Domestic Violence at 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at FDR Park in Yorktown Heights.
As a longstanding member and president of the center’s board of directors, I am proud of the work we do providing counseling, advocacy and education for women, children and men who have experienced domestic or sexual abuse. For over 40 years, the Women’s Center has supported the community through its shelter, its 24-hour hotline, sexual assault exams, housing assistance, awareness programs and so much more.
However, as a not-for-profit organization, we rely on donations, grants and sponsorships from the communities we serve. On behalf of the board of directors, I ask that you help us continue our work for those affected by family violence, and I invite all members of the public to register for and join us at our annual walk.
Here is a link to our website so you can see the wonderful work we do: pnwwrc.org. Please also visit this site to register for the walk or to make a donation to help us continue our work.
-Maryellen Martirano
President of the Board of Directors of the Putnam/Northern Westchester Women’s Resource Center
