KATONAH, N.Y. — Take that, Team Winter!

Cluxatawney Henrietta, Muscoot Farm’s fine-feathered forecaster, laid an egg on Monday, Feb. 2, Groundhog Day, signaling the arrival an early spring.

Dozens of folks braved the frigid temperatures to cheer – or boo -- as farm director Jonathan Benjamin retrieved the egg from the celebrated chicken’s brand-new, barn-like nesting box.

It was the eighth year that the event has been hosted at the county park.

Benjamin also read a poem written – in chicken scratch – by the star of the hour herself.

Officials in attendance were County Executive Ken Jenkins, County Legislator Erika Pierce, and Jason Klein, director of conservation for the Parks Department.

Children stood on tip toe to sneak peeks into Henrietta’s tiny home before the big reveal. Cookies, bagels, muffins, and fruit were gobbled up. Chicken pictures were colored in with crayons.

Meanwhile, in Pennsylvania, Punxsutawney Phil – an actual groundhog – saw his shadow after emerging from his Gobbler’s Knob den, predicting six more week of winter.

It was his 140th consecutive annual prognostication.
