KATONAH, N.Y. - Things are about to get wild and woolly at Muscoot Farm.

The interpretive museum will celebrate spring with two lively annual traditions: its first farmers market of the season and a sheep shearing festival.

The duel events take place – rain or shine -- on Sunday, May 10, Mother’s Day. Admission is free.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., guests can watch as Muscoot’s sheep get their yearly trims in preparation for the warmer weather.

There will also be wool spinning demonstrations, related children’s activities, and an informational workshop.

Photo op! All of the farm’s animals will be lounging in their pastures and pens throughout the day.

Weather permitting, hayrides will start at 11 a.m. Tickets are $5. Moms ride free with the purchase of a child’s ticket. Little ones under the age of two also ride free.

Burgers, hot dogs, salads, and ice cream will be available for noshing at the concession stand.

The farmer’s market also kicks off that day. It will run from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. every Sunday through Nov. 15.

More than 20 vendors representing local farms and small businesses will be offering fresh produce, baked goods, handcrafted items, and more.

Performing on the Barnyard Beets Stage will be Jack Grace, whose musical offerings range from classic country and western to blues and southwestern-inspired tunes.

“There’s no better way to celebrate Mother’s Day than by enjoying everything Muscoot has to offer,” said Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins. “Watching the sheep being shorn and browsing the farmers market make for a fun and memorable day for the whole family.”

“Muscoot is a wonderful destination year-round, but it really shines during special events like this. It’s the perfect place to celebrate Mother’s Day with a mix of farm experiences and local charm,” said Kathy O’Connor, county commissioner of parks, recreation, and conservation.
