Louis Robert Tavino of Brewster, NY, passed away on Friday September 11, 2026, at the age of 72. Lou was born on July 16, 1954, in Mt. Kisco, NY, the son of the late Peter and Nellie (Lato) Tavino.
He graduated from Kennedy Catholic High School, class of 1972, and then from SUNY Cobleskill. On March 26, 1977, he married the love of his life Mary Whelly in St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam, NY.
Lou was known for his quick wit and humor. He owned Tavino Construction for the past 40 years and was actively working on building projects until he passed away. He was especially beloved by so many in Brewster, having resided almost his entire life at Deans Corners, mostly in the house his grandparents built in the 1930's, which Lou and Mary restored and renovated.
Besides his wife Mary, Lou is survived by his children Christopher Tavino (Sherry) of Brookfield, CT, and Daniel Tavino of Danbury, CT; and grandchildren Lucas, Michaela, Tommy and Codie. He was predeceased by his son Thomas Tavino (Samantha).
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Beecher Funeral Home of 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster NY. Calling hours will take place on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 from 4 to 7 p.m.
A Catholic mass will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Brewster, NY. at 10 a.m. followed by interment in St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery in Brewster NY.
