SOUTH SALEM, N.Y. - The second half of April was a busy period for traffic incidents in Lewisboro, with several occurring on Thursday, April 16.

That morning, an officer patrolling westbound on Route 35 near the Golden's Bridge Fire Department observed a black motorcycle traveling east at 58 mph in a 35 mph zone.

The officer made a U-turn and pursued the motorcycle with emergency lights and sirens activated. The motorcyclist initially stopped at the intersection with Increase Miller Road, but after the officer exited his patrol vehicle, the rider sped south on Increase Miller Road. With the officer in pursuit, the motorcyclist continued onto Todd Road, ran a stop sign, turned westbound, and crashed a short distance later.

The officer administered first aid while taking the rider into custody. A police sergeant arrived and requested assistance from emergency medical services for further evaluation and treatment. Reliable Towing impounded the motorcycle. The rider was transported to Lewisboro Police headquarters, where he was fingerprinted and issued multiple summonses and a desk appearance ticket. He was later driven to the Goldens Bridge Train Station for transportation home.

Early that afternoon, another accident occurred on Route 35 near Cameron’s Deli in Cross River. A vehicle had stopped to make a left turn into the deli and the car behind it had also stopped when a third vehicle struck the second from behind.

The driver of the second vehicle was transported to Northern Westchester Hospital with neck pain. A small dog traveling in a carrier inside the vehicle was taken to South Salem Animal Hospital. Sal’s Towing removed the damaged vehicle.

The driver of the third vehicle produced a foreign government identification card instead of a driver’s license and was issued a summons for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Around 8 p.m. that evening, an employee of the Goldens Bridge Dunkin’ Donuts reported damage to her vehicle after finishing her shift. The car had been parked near the restaurant’s exit onto North Street and sustained damage to the rear passenger-side quarter panel. There were no witnesses, and surveillance cameras faced the storefront rather than the parking area, so police completed an incident report.

Later that evening, a two-vehicle accident occurred on Route 35 near Waccabuc River Lane when an eastbound vehicle attempted to pass two cars and collided head-on with a westbound vehicle. A witness confirmed the account.

The South Salem Fire Department and Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the scene. Firefighters had to remove the doors and roof of the eastbound vehicle to extricate the driver, who was screaming in pain from the impact. East Towing removed both vehicles. Both drivers were transported to area hospitals for treatment.

On Wednesday, April 29, an injury accident occurred on Route 22 at North Street in Goldens Bridge. A vehicle attempting to turn left onto North Street from Route 22 was struck by a southbound vehicle that failed to stop.

The driver of the turning vehicle was transported to Westchester Medical Center with whiplash and a bleeding forehead. A passenger suffered seatbelt-related injuries across her chest and was transported with the driver to Northern Westchester Hospital. East Towing removed both vehicles.

Among other accident responses handled by Lewisboro Police:

On Friday, April 24, a driver lost control of a vehicle on Oscaleta Road in South Salem, struck a utility pole, and suffered injuries.

On Sunday, April 26, a vehicle struck a deer in Goldens Bridge. The car sustained damage but remained operable.

On Tuesday, April 28, a westbound vehicle waiting to turn left from Route 138 onto Old Bedford Road was struck when an eastbound vehicle swerved partially into the oncoming lane, clipping the first vehicle’s side mirror before leaving the scene.

Also on April 28, a vehicle traveling west on Route 35 stopped after another car abruptly entered the turning lane at Cherry Street to make a left turn. A second westbound vehicle then rear-ended the stopped car.

Police also responded to several non-traffic incidents, including an assault in the parking lot of a Cross River store on Friday, April 24.

According to police, a high school student was shopping with his parents and friends when he was punched multiple times and knocked to the ground by a student from another nearby school. At the hospital, the victim received stitches for an eyebrow injury and a CT scan revealed a fractured nose. The victim declined to press charges but requested that police speak with the assailant.

An officer contacted the school resource officer at the other student’s school. The student was advised that any future incident of this nature could result in arrest and agreed to avoid contact with the victim.

On Tuesday, April 28, police responded to a dispute between neighbors in Goldens Bridge involving a shared driveway easement.

The complainant told officers that her neighbors frequently parked in a manner that made it difficult for her family to enter and exit the driveway. She also alleged that the neighbors’ granddaughter intentionally crossed onto her property to bother her and complained that their garage door was excessively noisy. She further reported that the neighbors had called her “schizophrenic” and “crazy.”

Police then spoke with the neighboring couple, who said tensions had escalated recently because the complainant had been videotaping them and their granddaughter as they entered and exited their home. Officers advised both parties to avoid contact with one another and to direct any future complaints through police or attorneys. The complainant was also advised to stop filming her neighbors.

Police additionally responded to a yard fire in South Salem. The resident told officers he had been burning shrubs individually and believed the fire was not producing excessive smoke. The officer advised him that burning bushes was prohibited, and the resident extinguished the fire.

On Thursday, April 30, a Goldens Bridge resident reported identity theft after someone allegedly attempted to open a Bank of America credit card using his Social Security number. The resident also reported attempts to open Citibank credit accounts through Wayfair and Dillard’s. He said he had already contacted credit bureaus to freeze his accounts and prevent further fraudulent activity, but requested a police report for investigative purposes.
