John Jay Cross Country Preview: Wolves hoping to find their stride

CROSS RIVER, N.Y. - Another cross country season is on the horizon, and the mission is the same for both the boys and girls teams.

“We want to get better through the course of the season, ramp up and be in peak form by the end of the year,” said boys coach Tyler Sayre.

At the top of the heap is Rohan Patel. “He was a state qualifier last year and works really hard,” said Sayre.

Alongside Patel, Torin Patel, Peter Koch and Gavin Dacey are knocking on the door. “We’re hoping they will take the next step,” he said.

That elevation begins Sept. 15 at Brewster.

On the girls side, Coach Dey Dey is excited to have another season in front of him and isn’t naming names. “We have a lot of news girls so that’s what I’m working on,” he said.

Not wanting to put them on the spot, Dey is keeping things simple when it comes to identifying potential standouts. “We’re just going to work it out,” he concluded.
