John Jay Boys Soccer Preview: Wolves look to turn the page

CROSS RIVER, N.Y. - Last year, John Jay’s season came to a crushing end. The Wolves lost a thrilling back-and-forth battle to Panas, but along with a number of departing seniors, they have put the disappointment behind them.

“We’re ready to go,” said Co-Coach Elliott O’Sullivan.

In goal, John Jay is two deep. Martin Denny and Zach Goldstein, said Co-Coach Mike Alexander, “We’ll put them to the test and name starters next week.”

In front of the box, Auden Lindberg enters his senior year on defense. “He has size, form, competes in the air well and is able to play well with his feet,” said O’Sullivan.

Nick Harris will be alongside him, while a number of younger players are vying for positions. “We’ll figure it out,” said Alexander.

Up the field, the coaches feel pretty good about their strength at midfield, starting with Alejandro Pineda. “He’s calm on the ball, makes good decisions, wins the pile and is good on offense and defense,” said O’Sullivan.

Dennis Galvin fills a similar role. “He’s really good on the ball, is creative and makes things happen,” said O’Sullivan.

On the attack, Finn Fothergill is the big gun. “He was all-section and our top scorer,” said Alexander.

Porter Bysshe keeps up pretty well, too. “He’s really strong, really athletic and causes chaos,” said Alexander.

With more youth surrounding the upperclassmen, there’s a definite possibility of turning that inexperience into a positive. “95% of the team is playing year round,” said Alexander.

The synergy is unmistakable. “The players have unbelievable commitment, focus and camaraderie,” concluded Alexander.
