Interrupted burglary in Katonah leads to manhunt, school lockout

KATONAH, N.Y. - Police raced to the scene after a Katonah woman reported an unknown male exiting her residence upon returning home. 

Just after 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, the resident called 911 and reported that the individual had fled the scene on foot. 

Multiple units from the Bedford Police Department’s patrol and detective divisions were quickly on the scene, triggering an extensive search of the area with assistance from the Westchester County Aviation Unit. 

Officers conducted a neighborhood canvas and attempted to locate any available video surveillance, and nearby Katonah Elementary School was placed under a lockout order as a precaution.

Police believe the incident was an isolated event and there is no danger to the public.

The investigation is ongoing.
