NY Congressional District 17 – Congressman Mike Lawler declared victory on Tuesday night after defeating his opponent, Mondaire Jones, and securing a second two-year term in the United States House of Representatives.
“What an absolute ass kicking,” Lawler said during an election victory party he held in Rockland County. “Tonight, the Hudson Valley told Mondaire Jones to beat it. I can't thank each and every one of you enough for what you've done to make this happen.
"Two years ago, we made history. We not only defeated the chair of the DCCC for the first time in 42 years, but we ended Nancy Pelosi's reign as Speaker of the House. Tonight, we won with historic margins across this district."
Lawler thanked his family members, including his mom and his wife, Doina, who gave birth to their second daughter, Elizabeth, just over a week ago.
Unofficial results had Lawler winning with 53.2% of the vote. In Dutchess County, he won with 60% of the vote; in Putnam County he won with 56.9% of the vote; in Rockland County he won with 55.9% of the vote; and Westchester County was the only county where not all the votes had been counted at press time, but he had 45% of the vote just short of midnight.
