Combined gymnastics team tops Mahopac and Byram Hills

MAHOPAC, N.Y. - The combined gymnastics team continued to shine in the new year, with athletes from Somers, Yorktown, and John Jay joining forces and showcasing their talents against squads from Byram Hills and Mahopac on Jan. 13. at Eclipse Gymnastics. 

The squad won the day decisively with a score of 181.200 to Mahopac's 168.35 and Byram's 158.500. 

Somers' McKenna Mullins set the tone for the day, with the senior placing first on the beam (9.50) and second in the vault (9.05), uneven bars (9.40), and floor exercise (9.60). Mullins took the top spot in the all-around with a score of 37.55. 

Fellow Tusker Kaitlin Gannon placed sixth in vault (8.10), 9th on beam (8.85) and 14th in floor exercise (8.60). 

John Jay's Kayla Cambareri took second on the beam (9.40), fourth in vault (8.80), fifth on the uneven bars (8.10), and 8th in the floor exercise (9.00), finishing third in the all-around with a score of 35.30. 

Yorktown's Amelia Carozza helped round out the day, with the senior taking fourth in the floor exercise (9.40), fifth in vault (8.45), 12th on beam (8.60), and 14th on the uneven bars (7.20). The Husker finished 9th in the all-around at 33.65.
