MAHOPAC, N.Y. - Gymnasts from the Somers combined team took on the top competition in the area at the Division 1 tournament at Eclipse Gymnastics on Feb. 3.
John Jay’s Kayla Cambareri punched her ticket to sectionals after she finished tied for first on the balance beam (9.450), placed third in vault (9.350), fifth in uneven bars (8.350) and had solid showings in floor exercise (9.050) and finished sixth in the all-around with a score of 36.20.
Fellow Wolf Kylie Schall would also qualify after notching a score of 8.050 on the uneven bars.
Yorktown’s Amelia Carozza qualified for sectionals with impressive showings on vault (9.0), floor exercise (9.0), uneven bars (7.40), balance beam (8.250) and an all-around score of 33.650.
Somers’ Kaitlin Gannon had solid performances on vault (8.400) and floor exercise (8.850). Her teammate and fellow Tusker McKenna Mullins missed the tournament due to illness, and will petition to compete at the section championship on Thursday, Feb. 6.
