BEDFORD, N.Y. - New York State Police are investigating a domestic incident that occurred on the morning of Tuesday, March 17, in Bedford.
At approximately 11:50 a.m., troopers and investigators from the Somers barracks responded to a report of a dispute inside a vehicle traveling on I-684.
The investigation determined that the driver, John Kijek, 59, of Bedford Hills, was operating a 2025 Land Rover southbound when he stopped the vehicle in the highway’s U-turn area. A female passenger then exited the vehicle.
As a responding trooper arrived and began an investigation, Kijek fled the scene on foot, running across the northbound lanes of 684 near mile marker 15.8. While attempting to cross the roadway, he was struck by a northbound 2015 Honda Odyssey.
Kijek sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The driver of the Honda was not injured.
Following the investigation, Kijek was arrested and charged with First-degree reckless endangerment, a class D felony, Third-degree criminal mischief, a class E felony, First-degree unlawful imprisonment, a class E felony, Third-degree menacing, a class B misdemeanor, and Fourth-degree criminal mischief, a class A misdemeanor.
Kijek was arraigned before a Town of Mount Pleasant judge and remanded to the Westchester County Jail. He was scheduled to appear in Bedford Justice Court on Wednesday, March 25.
