BEDFORD, N.Y. - On Saturday, April 26, the community gathered to celebrate Arbor Day with the planting of a Hackberry tree between the Bedford Police Department and Town House buildings.
Selected by John Goodman, the Hackberry belongs to the Elm family, and features a unique bark. The ceremony included the reading of a poem by Marilyn Pellini, and a proclamation from Supervisor Ellen Calves extolling the value of trees within the community. Also present were members of the Parks & Recreation Department and Tree Advisory Board.
Earlier this year, Bedford once again earned the distinction of “Tree City USA” for meeting requirements from the Arbor Day Foundation.
