A Message from the Lewisboro Tax Office: Town and County Tax collection is underway

Posted

SOUTH SALEM, N.Y. - The Lewisboro April 2025 Town & County Tax collection is underway! It runs penalty-free through April 30, 2025.

Options

If you pay property taxes directly to us (rather than through your bank), and for some reason you haven’t received your bill, please call us at 914-763-3100 and we can email a bill to you.

The payment portal through the Town website is open for online tax payment. You can conveniently pay your taxes from your home or office at Lewisboro.municipaltaxpayments.com. (There is a $1 charge to make the payment from your checking account; if you prefer to use a credit card, the processing fee is 2.4%.)

The Tax Office is in the Lewisboro Town House at 11 Main Street in South Salem—look for the beautiful American flag flying out front on the Veterans’ flagpole! You’ll also be greeted by hundreds of daffodils on the Town House lawn—courtesy of our wonderful Garden Club volunteers!

We are open every business day through the month of April starting at 9 a.m. Come on over with your check and your entire bill—please remember not to detach the stub. Park in the back lot and you’ll find easy access by using the ramp up to the Town House back door.  You’ll be able to leave our office with your stamped receipt once you’ve made your payment for that day.

Deadlines Matter

If you prefer to mail your payment in, please send your entire bill back to us (don’t detach the stub) along with your check, to: Tax Office, PO Box 412, 11 Main Street, South Salem, NY 10590. We strongly recommend that you go into the post office and ask the postal clerk to kindly place a clear and legible April 2025 postmark on your stamped payment envelope. Here’s why: this timely USPS postmark is the only thing that can protect you from penalty if your envelope happens to arrive in our office after the deadline of April 30th, 2025. Postmarks from metered mail machines, including Pitney Bowes or Quadient, DO NOT WORK for this purpose under the New York State Real Property Tax Law (RPTL)—only clear, official, and timely United States Post Office postmarks can help you.

Warning

We do not recommend personal online banking where you instruct your bank to send us a tax payment.  These payments, even if you order them prior to the tax deadline, frequently come in late and almost never have a USPS postmark.  If the deadline has passed, regardless of when you ordered the check, you will be assessed the late penalty under RPTL.  Unfortunately, placing your payment envelope in a USPS mailbox does not guarantee you a timely postmark (or even any postmark at all).  Foreign postmarks are also unacceptable for proving timely payment.  However, payments with acceptable proof of timely mailing from Fed Ex, DHL, and UPS, may be processed penalty-free under RPTL.
