Two people were hospitalized early Friday after a pickup truck caught fire on the Taconic State Parkway, according to the Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department.
Firefighters were dispatched at 12:08 a.m. to the northbound parkway near Underhill Avenue for a reported vehicle fire. Car 2532 and Engines 272 and 274 arrived to find a full-sized pickup truck heavily involved in flames just south of the Underhill Avenue exit ramp.
Volunteer firefighters deployed a handline and quickly knocked down most of the fire before transitioning to a foam operation because of a compromised fuel tank.
The vehicle's two occupants were transported by local EMS to Westchester Medical Center for treatment. Firefighters remained at the scene to assist the tow company in removing the mild-hybrid vehicle.
The scene was later turned over to New York State Police.
