Supervisor Goncalves Meets with The Lewisboro Seniors

LEWISBORO, N.Y. - On Wednesday, July 30, the Lewisboro Seniors had a visit from our Town Supervisor, Tony Goncalves.

Mr. Goncalves informed member about the possibility of getting a new van for the group. This van is used to transport seniors to and from our meetings that are held every Wednesday. This is a meeting place like none other. Our seniors develop lifelong friendships while they laugh, sing, dance, and reminisce. The van is also used to transport seniors to grocery stores. It is a blessing when you can no longer drive due to physical challenges. Mr. Goncalves also had a question-and-answer session with our members. Our seniors were so glad that Tony Goncalves, Chief of Staff Benefits Coordinator Kerri Wolfe, Senior Adult Director Pam Veith, and Recreation Supervisor Nicole Caviola attended.

Mr. Goncalves also informed us of many other grants that our seniors may qualify to receive. Dottie Podalak, a member of the Lewisboro Seniors, volunteered to help with a grant. All of the town staff was very well received.

As many of you may know, the Lewisboro Seniors have been searching for many years for a permanent meeting place that our members will be able to call home. We have been very fortunate to find a place that is great for our seniors to meet. Bill Phol, the Pastor of Jesse Church and the Jesse Lee Board of Trustees have offered us the use of Stevens Memorial Church on Shady Lane.  It’s everything our seniors need and wanted. In order to make this happen, there were many people involved in its coming to fruition, including Tony Goncalves, Pam Veith, Nicole Caviola, Gail Kraljevic and the entire group of Lewisboro Seniors, among many others.

We went before the Town Board on August 12, and our request was voted on and passed. Thanks to everyone that helped us.
The seniors have also formed an event/class committee, so look for updated activities. There won’t be a dull moment.  We’re looking into new activities, crafts, and exciting trips. This is the time to look into becoming a member of the Lewisboro Seniors. We have activities for all ages from 50 to 100+. We come from all walks of life, different backgrounds, but we have all come together at the Lewisboro Seniors. Please call Pam Veith if you are interested in joining at 914-232-6162.  Everyone is welcome.

To give you a glimpse into a day at the Lewisboro Seniors, on July 30, we also had a visit from our repeat guests, the Kids Community Club of Lewisboro.  I can’t say enough how our seniors feel when these children come to entertain us.  During their most recent visit we made fans. The children put their artistic talent to use by helping all of our seniors. The children ranged from 13 years old down to twin girls that were 2 years of age. Next, we were ready to play animal bingo. There were animals we had never heard of before, but our great MC Alessandro described them in great detail. The fun didn’t stop there, as we played the Price is Right.  All the seniors had a great laugh at their version of the gameshow, with prizes given to the winners. The last winner had won a great magnifying mirror that came with his very own car! (Yes, it was a Matchbox car, but it brought many laughs.) In appreciation, the Lewisboro Seniors provided ice cream from King Cone who provided the ice cream truck.

You can have this fun too. Please don’t think you are too old or too young. You are never too old or young for spending a day with friends. You’ve worked hard all your life, you deserve to treat yourself to a day of fun. Thank you to everyone for making our Lewisboro Seniors feel wanted. Also, thanks to Alison Biddle for arranging lunches through outreach to our community. I’ll be waiting to meet all of you.
